Hawks Rules and Player Guidelines

Team Motto:  Winning isn’t everything, but nobody gets dressed to lose.

Team Strategy:  Field a team of at least 10 or 13 out skaters for every game.  Intent is to put our best foot forward and have fun win or lose.

Team Roster:  Fifteen (15) out skaters and one (1) goalies to include approved subs.

Team Captain/Manager

  • Serves as the primary spokesperson for the team.
  • Arbitrates disagreements and notifies players of suspensions.
  • Appoints an assistant manager during absences.
  • Coordinates sub approval with hockey director
  • Coordinates jersey purchases for new team members.

Commitment:  Team members are expected to be committed to the Hawks first

League:  Sunday C2

Communication:  Goal is to ensure every member of the team maintains situational awareness.

  • Team members will provide contact information (e.g., email, cell phone) to the team manager.
  • BenchApp will be the primary communication tool with email, text message, and phone as back-ups.
  • Expectations:
    • Team members will respond to BenchApp notifications promptly.
    • Team members will provide reason if they can’t play (e.g., Sick, TDY, Family Event)

Fees:  Pay monthly Monument Ice Rink subscription fees as required

USA Hockey Registration:  Must be current and in good standing.

Substitutions:  Players cannot substitute for other teams (e.g., C1, C2, D) without the express permission of the Hockey Director and the Team Manager.  Doing so jeopardizes the entire team.

Injuries:  If a team member is injured, they must notify team manager as soon as possible.  Team manager will then update BenchApp with the ambulance icon.

Attendance:  Players are expected to attend 80% of the games.  Obviously extenuating circumstances like military deployments, work commitments not normally scheduled, Reserve duty, and injuries will not be counted against the player.

Sportsmanship:  Understand that this is men’s league hockey, and everyone needs to get up and go to work the next day.  Treat teammates, opponents, and the refs with respect.

Alcohol:  IAW USA Guidelines, no alcohol on the bench.  Save it for after the game.

Team Suspension Policy:

  • Major/Game Misconduct (e.g., Fighting): At the discretion of the hockey director.
  • Failure to show w/o notice:  1 Game.
  • Three minor penalties in 1 game:  1 Game.

New Players:  Voted on by current team members.  Majority rules.

Team Subs:  The team manager will maintain a cleared sub list to be used when less than ten (10) out skaters are confirmed within 24-hours of the game.

Close Games:

  • Hawks up by a goal under 2-minutes:  Best players on the ice to secure the victory
  • Hawks down by a goal under 2-minutes:  Best players on the ice to try and tie the game and force overtime/shoot out
  • Shoot Out:  Best shooters pre-identified.
